Peace & Justice
The Peace and Justice Committee (P&J) is a diverse group of parishioners who support each other’s leadership in projects based on Catholic Social Teaching. They specifically address issues such as: hunger, homelessness, capital punishment, immigration, and the sanctity of all human life. This committee works with other churches and community groups, as well as with the Lorain County Catholic Action Committee. In recent years, P&J has:
► | Collected newborn & infant apparel during the Christmas octave
► | Coordinated the efforts of Catholic Relief Services "Operation Rice Bowl"
► | Campaigned to raise funds to enable Afghan immigrant families to secure Visas for relocation to the US
► | Held campaigns to collect home furnishing, appliances, kitchen & tableware, bedding, & curtains to aid Ukraine & Afghan families who've relocated to the Northeast Ohio area. |
In May of 2023, at the Catholic Commission Awards Dinner, the Sacred Heart P&J Committee received the Faithful Servant Award in recognition of its extensive outreach efforts.
Meetings for this committee are held on the first Thursday of the month at 7pm (during the academic year).
