First Reconciliation
The Sacrament of Reconciliation or Confession is an experience of God’s unlimited mercy and unconditional forgiveness. We are created by God to be in union with Him and with one another. Sadly there are times when, because of our human weakness and frailties we do not love as we ought and we rupture our relationship with God and with each other. In other words we sin. God’s love for us does not cease when we fall into sin and God does not abandon us in our failings. God is always willing to forgive our sins and is eager for us to come to Him and seek his mercy.
In order to be forgiven by God we need to have sorrow for the times we have sinned. Surely we can go directly to God and ask for His mercy and forgiveness. The gift that is the Sacrament of Reconciliation allows us to seek God’s forgiveness through the ministry of the priest who represents Jesus himself. In this beautiful sacrament God forgives the sins of those who confess them and God reconciles them to himself and the whole Christian community.
Preparation for the Sacrament of Penance & Reconciliation (Confession) for children is done in the first and second grades through the Parish School of Religion (PSR) program. In order to be eligible to receive First Communion one must have participated in their First Reconciliation.
