Looking for a "behind the scenes" way to assist at Mass?
Sacristans are specially trained in the preparation of the sanctuary for the celebration of Mass. They are also trained in the proper methods for purifying and cleaning the Communion bowls, chalices, and cups, all of which are used as vessels for the precious Body and Blood of our Lord during the Mass.
Sacristans are required to arrive well in advance of the scheduled liturgy to set out the proper vessels and the unconsecrated bread and wine. They will also ensure the purificators and other incidentals are ready for the scheduled liturgy. They may also be called upon to prepare the Baptismal area should a Baptism be scheduled during a given Mass.
This ministry is open to adults who have celebrated Confirmation, and who are free of any impediments to participating in the sacramental life of the Church. A good sacristan is a boon to any parish and, as the GIRM (General Instructions for the Roman Catholic Missal) says, the post fulfills a true liturgical function.
If you are interested in participating as a Sacristan, please contact Fr. Trask or Deacon Tom Daw
