OCIA (formerly referred to as RCIA)

The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA – formerly referred to as the RCIA [Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults]) is a process for becoming a Roman Catholic for adults who have not been baptized, or who have been validly baptized into another Christian tradition. This journey into the Catholic faith takes a number of months and is not confined to a particular time of the year. Please contact Fr. Trask for more information.

Interested individuals from the Oberlin and Wellington communities gather on a somewhat bi-weekly basis at either Sacred Heart (Oberlin) OR St. Patrick (Wellington) parish; we gather in the Education Building at Sacred Heart on Sunday mornings at 11:45am.

For those participating in the 2026-2027 OCIA journey, we’ll be journeying via a combination of in-person and on-line processes; the online serving as seed-material for the discussions and conversations that will take place in-person. Additionally:

Our first gathering will be introductory in nature. We’ll get to know one another a bit, and speak about the OCIA process (by which participants will begin a life-long process of journeying to the Lord). We’ll also pass out some resources that you may find helpful as we embark upon the OCIA process.
